Name: Genetics Society of Australasia, Inc.
Purpose: To promote the interests of the Science of Genetics in Australia and our region.

  • Annual Scientific Meeting generally held in early July. The Society brings at least one overseas speaker to the meeting. Production of abstracts for scientific meetings. (Abstracts available via ftp)
  • Organise Australasian Gene Mapping Workshops (GMW) with New Zealand Genetics Society. Meetings held in NZ every 3rd year. When in Australia generally overlapping with GSA meeting
  • A strong emphasis is placed on student participation at meetings by subsidising students presenting and by awarding student prizes for the best presentations. (Prizes are donated by sustaining members, companies who support the Society and mount trade displays at the meetings)
  • An email distribution list is maintained to disseminate information on meetings and jobs available (contact a.wilton@unsw.edu.au)

  • The Summer Research Studentships of $4,000 are granted annually to three upper level science students interested in gaining hands-on research experience in the discipline of genetics.
