We are providing maps of Sydney and maps of Sydney University in the conference satchel. But you have to get to the registration point to get these.
General information is given in the maps of Sydney and campus on this web site. The information on this page supplements these specifically on how to get to the two registration points:
(1) Wesley College, at the mixer (7 - 10pm, Wednesday July 8), or earlier
if you are staying at the college
(2) The Old Geology Lecture Theatre on Thursday - Saturday.
(1) Getting to the mixer/accommodation at Wesley College
a. Getting there by car.
People driving to the meeting should find Carillon Ave which runs between City Rd and Missenden Rd. Then enter the University by the Western Ave gate, the only gate on Carillon Ave, which is adjacent to a pedestrian crossing.
Wesley College is the second large building on the right. If you are just coming for the mixer, it would be easier to just park on Western Ave. The front door is directly off Western Ave, and the mixer will be held in the dining room just beyond the entrance.
If you are looking for a place to park for the duration of the meeting, then just past the main entrance and opposite the gate box, about 200 metres down the drive, is the car entrance to Wesley College. Follow this around to the back of the college where there should be some parking. Unfortuately there may be someone at the gate box, and they may hit you with a $5 or $7 charge, although if you say you are going to Wesley College they may let you in for free. The box is often not manned during term holidays, especially after 5.
b. Getting to Wesley College by public transport.
If you are arriving at the airport, then unfortunately our advice is to take a taxi. This should cost about $15 to get to Wesley College. The airport bus costs $6, and a second bus to Sydney University an extra $1.20, so for two people, a taxi may actually be cheaper.
If you are coming from the city, the 422, 423, 426 and 428 buses go past Sydney University on City Road. Get out at the footbridge over City Road, then cross City Road, go down Fisher Road, Physics Road and Western Ave. The campus map, which is under Campus info on the Home Page, will show you how to get there. It is about a 400 metre walk.
(2) Getting to the Old Geology Lecture Theatre
This is on the Parramatta Road side of campus, just adjacent to the footbridge over Parramatta Road. The Sydney and Campus info pages give information on buses
Parking near to Old Geology
Parking within Sydney University may be available, at a price. You need to mention at the gate that you are attending the GSA conference, and on weekdays you will have to pay a $7 fee. On weekends the price is $5, although sometimes the gates are not manned.
As an alternative on weekdays, the Broadway Centre nearby has an 'earlybird' $5 deal. Drive to the entrance on Bay Street, go to level 1A, tell them that you are at a conference at Sydney University, and they should sell you a ticket.
On weekends, free parking in the streets just north of the University is no problem. The conference is being held at a time when there are no classes, so that it may also be possible to park in the streets on weekdays. Parking is often available in Arundel Street, which runs parallel to Parramatta Road, particularly if you arrive before 9am. Alternatively there may be parking in the streets just north of Arundel street.
Parking on Parramatta Road is available between 10am and 3pm. Outside of these hours on weekdays there is a clearway, and your car will be towed away if you forget to move it.
