The noted author and academic Frank Nicholas, co-author of 'Charles Darwin in Australia', has agreed to lead a one day tour to the Blue Mountains, covering the route used by Darwin last century. If you are lucky, Jan Nicholas, co-author of the book, may also be available to act as a tour guide.
Depending on requests, the tour may be run before or after the meeting, or both if there is sufficient demand. The two dates are Wednesday July 8 and Monday July 13. If nominating for this tour, please indicate which date(s) suit you.
The approximate itinerary for the tour is as follows:
8.00 am Depart University of Sydney in a bus
9.10 am Short walk along Cox's Road
10.00 am Site of Weatherboard Inn, Wentworth Falls
10.15 am Morning tea in Wilson Park, Wentworth Falls
10.30 am Charles Darwin Walk, from Wilson Park to
the Falls
12.10 pm Depart Wentworth Falls
12.30 pm Govett's Leap
1.00 pm Lunch at Blackheath (in the hotel -
Gardiner's Inn - in which Darwin
stayed the night)
2.00 pm Depart Blackheath on return journey
3.00 pm Pilgrim Inn, Blaxland. Take Mitchell's
Pass down the mountains
3.30 pm Lennox Bridge, Mitchell's Pass
4.00 pm Site of the Emu Ferry and the Governor
Bourke Inn
4.45 pm Old Government House, Parramatta
6.00 pm Arrive back at the University
